Who (Else) Is Coming Back for the Centenary and 60th Anniversary Specials?

With Tegan Jovanka and Ace McShane confirmed for the Centenary and the Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, and Wilfred Mott confirmed for the 60th, there are sure to be plenty more cameos across the two specials. Here are just a few of my theories of who else may be returning to the Whoniverse within these two fantastical specials.

This post contains potential spoilers, read at your own risk!

For the BBC Centenary Special…

The Classic Doctors

Not all of them, of course, but some. You would think that with Tegan and Ace returning, the Fourth, Fifth, and/or Seventh Doctors would make an appearance- even just a cameo! Seeing as the Centenary is celebrating the history of BBC, it would make sense to see the history of their greatest show on screen. Although, it would also be cool to see the Sixth or Eighth Doctors, or possibly David Bradley’s First Doctor. You never know.

Amy Pond and Rory Williams

Amy and Rory returning was the first rumor I’d heard about the Centenary- and directly after, I heard the rumor about Tegan and Ace. One of these came true, so why not the other? I would love to see the Ponds again, snd having them meet Thirteen sounds like a blast!

For the 60th Anniversary Special…

The Twelfth Doctor

Before the announcement of David Tennant’s return, he was spotted in Cardiff around Bad Wolf studios, where the 60th is being filmed. Around that time, Peter Capaldi was also spotted in Cardiff near the same area. Coincidence? I think not (hopefully). The Twelfth Doctor is my favorite, and it would be amazing to see him on screen again.

Nardole

On the day of the announcement, Rachel Talalay, a writer for Doctor Who, reposted the announcement teaser on her Twitter followed by a caption-less selfie with her and Matt Lucas. While this may be nothing at all, I find the timing to be very odd. He could possibly be returning as the Twelfth Doctor’s companion (if the rumor above is true), or for a potential spin-off by Russell T Davies and Talalay.  In the comments of the photo, many have asked whether the return of Nardole is inbound, to which Talalay has neither confirmed or denied at this time.

Mel Bush & Hebe Harrison

Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) and Hebe Harrison (Ruth Madeley) were companions of the Seventh and Sixth Doctors, respectively. Reportedly, Ruth Madeley was seen on set of the 60th Anniversary in a wheelchair. Also, a piece of dialogue was leaked between the Doctor and Donna talking about a woman named Mel and that she’s brilliant.

Of course, there are many more characters I would like to see again, specifically the Ninth Doctor, Clara Oswald, and Bill Potts. I’m also excited to see Ncuti Gatwa and Yasmin Finney’s entrances to the Whoniverse. This list may be added to as more theories and rumors emerge. Who would you like to see return for either the Centenary or the 60th- or even both?

July 30th, 2022 Update: Rest in peace Bernard Cribbins. Every night when it gets dark and the stars come out, I’ll look up at the sky and think of you. 💔
