REVIEW: Billie Eilish's don’t smile at me
don’t smile at me is wunderkind Billie Eilish’s debut album. At just 16, Eilish has successfully created a masterpiece, as well as a song that made her a star overnight. Released on December 22nd, 2017, the nine track album is an amazing debut.
The overall feel of the album is somewhere between pop, hip-hop, and acoustic. It’s a brilliant mix of genres that makes the album feel complete. With tracks like “COPYCAT” and “idontwannabeyouanymore” neighboring each other, it’s a great album to listen to without shuffling.
Of course, the seventh track “ocean eyes” is what shot Eilish into stardom. The songs haunting vocals and beautiful lyrics make it a perfect basis for the album.
My favorite tracks are “idontwannabeyouanymore”, “bellyache”, and “hostage”. The somberness of the first and last song and the energy of the middle song really compliment each other, and they tell a story of their own.
Overall, this album is a perfect debut, a modern day masterpiece. Billie Eilish is a young genius and has so much potential. I can’t wait to see where she goes next!
