October 2025 Album Review Wrap-Up

Hi all and welcome back to another album review wrap-up! It's finally the month of Taylor, but that doesn't mean I didn't listen to anything else...

The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift

Revisited

So a lot of people in my circles were comparing Life of a Showgirl to this album and I honestly don’t know why? They’re not similar to me at all but I decided to revisit anyway.

I feel like this album is more in alignment with Charli XCX’s Brat and Lorde’s Virgin than anything by Taylor (maybe the song Honey? I really don’t know lol). Feels very 90s and Y2K pop while also modern and fresh. I will say my listening experience was slightly better now that I didn’t have Diet Pepsi and Headphones On constantly being shoved down my throat across social media, but this album does feel shallow in the end.

Favorites: Times Like These, Aquamarine, High Fashion

Ghost by Sky Ferreira

Released: 2012

FINALLY listening to Sky Ferreira! She was one of the first artists I wanted to listen to when I started my music expansion journey. I really loved Ghost, reminded me of a Faye Webster song but I can’t remember which one lol. And Everything Is Embarrassing is a bop. The other three songs were good but not as catchy as the other two.

Favorites: Ghost, Everything Is Embarrassing, Sad Dream

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

Defenders of the Faith by Judas Priest

Released: 1984

Did not beat Screaming For Vengeance, but I didn't expect it to lol. Still a great album worth a listen though!

Favorites: Night Comes Down, Turn On Your Light, Some Heads Are Gonna Roll

Melt by Not For Radio

Released: 2025

Melt is definitely in the contenders to be my top album of 2025, no joke. Not For Radio is the new solo side project from The Marías lead singer María Zardoya, which takes on a more ambient and experimental sound compared to the band's music. It's very calming and soothing, to the point where on my second listen I found myself drifting off. A very gorgeous album!

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Night Time, My Time by Sky Ferreira

Released: 2013

Title track is very reminiscent of Twin Peaks and Julee Cruise (which reminds me I need to get into her discography soon because I love that show). Otherwise, I wasn’t really a fan of this album. Very dated early ‘10s electropop/electrorock. I was expecting more indie acoustic like her debut extended play. Oh well.

love? ...or something like it by Halle

Released: 2025

For some reason, Chloe and Halle's solo work just doesn't do anything for me. I wish Halle and her sister had remained a duo; they work better in my opinion. There’s just something missing from their solo stuff, and it’s very prominent both on Chloe's work and here on Halle's debut album. It's likely why the only song I truly enjoyed is the one that has both Chloe and Halle's vocals featured.

West End Girl by Lily Allen

Released: 2025

I’ve never listened to Lily Allen before (beyond her hits Smile and Fuck You), and the talk surrounding this album across social media has piqued my interest enough to have a sit down with her latest work.

Lyrically, it's brilliant. I love Allen's storytelling ability without making things too complicated. It made West End Girl feel more like a concept album. However, this doesn't really fit my style of music overall. There are a select few tracks I would consider adding to my library but otherwise it's not my thing production-wise.

2024 Reading Wrap-Up

Happy end of year everyone! This one has been absolutely crazy for me, dealing with some of the uppiest ups and the downiest downs. I would summarize this year in one word: a rollercoaster. But throughout this year, one thing has been pretty consistent for me, and that would be reading. Through all of the crazy events of my life this year, it was rare when I was without a book (or e-reader) in hand. I actually read so much, that... I read 110 books this year! Go me! I'm very proud of myself for achieving this goal, as I've never read 100 books before, much less 110. My previous record was 79 books in 2021, and my original goal for this year was 80. I credit my ability to read so much more due to two things: one, the Kindle Fire HD 8 I received for Christmas in 2023, and two, my job allowing me ample reading time (while the kiddos sleep, of course). Every person interested in true crime has that one case that sticks with them. The one case that keeps them awake at three in the morning, the one case that boggles the mind. For me, that case is the disappearance of Canadian teen Mekayla Bali. Why? REVIEW: Doctor Who: Series Fifteen

This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk. A beautiful yet disappointing end to an era. What started out as a collection of some of the best episodes of Doctor Who as a whole turned out to be one giant, meaningless waste. At the beginning of this series, I had so much hope and love for this show. Now all I feel is sadness, confusion, and uncertainty (and a little bit of shame). For me, the series started out great. The Robot Revolution , while somewhat campy, was a good episode to ease the viewer in. Lux was a fun romp that continues with the Pantheon of the Gods storyline, and The Well took one of my favorite episodes and continued it as an indirect sequel without ruining the source material. Lucky Day , in my opinion, was a better Doctor-lite episode than the previous series'  73 Yards  and gave a good insight to what was going on with Ruby Sunday and UNIT back on Earth.
