REVIEW: The Library of Shadows by Rachel Moore

I have received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book through the publisher. This has not affected my rating or review in any way.

Thank you to Harper Teen for sending me an Advance Reader's Copy of The Library of Shadows!

Rachel Moore’s paranormal romance debut, The Library of Shadows, is one of the cutest, coziest books I’ve read in a while. It has the vibes of Crave with less angst and Harry Potter with more ghosts.

In The Library of Shadows, we follow Este Logano after she transfers to the elite Radcliffe Preparatory boarding school— the same school that her late father attended and later dropped out from. Este’s goal is to feel closer to her father as well as find answers about the key her father left behind. Then we meet Mateo, who isn’t all what he seems. He has the answers Este is searching for— answers which later get Este in a load of trouble— and together they go on a semester-long paranormal adventure with a big hint of romance.

There were some moments while reading where I was like, “Is this Harry Potter fanfiction?” For example, the character Mateo Radcliffe seems to be inspired by the popular fan-made character Mattheo Riddle. The school also seems very similar to Hogwarts, such as the characters wearing robes and writing with quills and ink. Also, the most glaring similarity is the name Radcliffe itself, which may be homage to Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe. Either way, this story was enjoyable enough to look past all of this.

The Library of Shadows is a spooky yet adorable little story that I would recommend anyone to read during pumpkin spice latte season. It features some of my favorite tropes, such as enemies to lovers, found family, and a happily ever after. I give Rachel Moore’s debut 4 out of 5 ghostly stars, and I’m very much looking for to reading more from her.

The Library of Shadows by Rachel Moore will be available on September 5th, 2023.
