REVIEW: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.

This film was beautiful, energetic, intense, and a wonderful way to honor the late Chadwick Boseman, aka our T’Challa.

The film takes on a very serious tone from the start, catching the viewer up on T’Challa’s death and the state of Wakanda afterward. The main focus isn’t on the death itself though. It’s about grief, family, and believing in yourself. This is a coming-of-age story, it is both a tribute to the past and to the future.

I have so much to say about this film, but I don’t know how to word it all out. Ryan Coogler did amazing work with this film and I’m absolutely in love with it. The actors did amazing as well, and while I loved all of their performances, Angela Bassett’s stood out to me. She was truly brilliant and I can see her winning an Oscar for this film. I also enjoyed Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira’s performances very much.

As for the storyline, the Wakandans vs. the Talokans was a very unique way of storytelling in the repetitive superhero genre. Letitia Wright and Tenoch Huerta both performed extremely well in their roles, and their chemistry was through the roof. I loved all of the scenes of them together. I especially loved the underwater scenes, it was absolutely beautiful cinematography.

Now, while I enjoyed the performances of everyone involed, my favorite characters in the film were Shuri and Riri Williams, especially Riri. She was the perfect addition to this film and her friendship with Shuri was so special. It only made me more excited for her Disney+ series in the coming year.

In the end, this is a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, T’Challa, the first Black Panther. It didn’t pile it on, but it addressed it in a way that made each moment an emotional experience. It always felt like the right moment to bring it up when it did, and the legacy left behind in the form of T’Challa and Nakia’s son was the perfect way to end the film- with a hopeful future, new and bright.

Overall, this film was brilliant, stunning, and simply perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. 5 out of 5 stars.
