REVIEW: Taylor Swift's Midnights

It seems that Miss Swift has given us another iconic album.

Like 1989, I can acknowledge Midnights as a greatly iconic album without it being my favorite. I have so much respect for it and the records it shattered, but this album’s production and certain lyricism makes it less than a favorite.

When I first listened to Midnights after it leaked, I hated it. Not only because I was hoping for more folklore/evermore-style music but I wasn’t a fan of the production on songs like You’re On Your Own, Kid and Midnight Rain and the lyrics on songs like Karma and Paris. However, majority of these songs grew on me over time (though I still have beef with that atrocious “karma is a cat/Vegas acrobat” lyric).

As for the positives, I loved Snow on the Beach and Labyrinth right off the bat. Songs like Maroon, Sweet Nothing, and Mastermind grew on me over time. And when the 3 AM tracks came out, I was blown away and wondering why some of them weren’t included on the standard album. The 3 AM edition of Midnights definitely improved my opinion on the album.

Favorites: Labyrinth, Dear Reader, Maroon

Least Favorites: Bigger Than The Whole Sky, High Infidelity
