REVIEW: Hawkeye
This review contains spoilers, read at your own risk.
Let’s be honest, Hawkeye was not my most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe project… but I did end up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, I was really disappointed with how the writers handled many of the characters- Clint Barton included. I was extremely dissatisfied with how the Vormir scene went, so I was hoping that this series could at leasts redeem him in some sense of the word in my eyes.
One good thing I have to say about Barton, though, is that I loved that Marvel finally gave him the comic-accurate hearing aids. As someone who is hard-of-hearing, it’s nice to finally see more representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Clint Barton, Maya Lopez, and Makkari (who was in Eternals last month).
I enjoyed Hailee Steinfeld’s performance as Kate Bishop. She brought out both her sassiness and vulnerability, and she made Kate feel like her own character rather than just a Hawkeye copycat.
I also really liked Florence Pugh’s performance as Yelena Belova. Her character being in Hawkeye was a major part of me getting over my hatred and blame towards Clint (more on that in a later post). Yelena’s energy in episode five and her fight scenes in episodes four and six were outstanding.
Of course, the holiday theme was the most fun part of this show. I loved the Christmas music in every episode, the party scene, and Rogers: The Musical. Definitely a great holiday watch.
All in all, this show did exceed my expectations, if only by some. 4 out of 5 stars.
