REVIEW: Loki: Season One

This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Crazy. Insane. Maddeningly astounding.

(And a lot of other big words to describe what I just watched.)

Loki is Marvel Studios’ best show yet. It was everything I wanted and more. Loki is my second favorite Marvel character (with Natasha Romanoff taking the first place spot) so this show has been one of my most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe projects of all time… and it definitely didn’t disappoint!

The plot kept me hooked throughout the show, and I loved each episode more and more. I loved the first two episodes and fifth most of all, but that cliffhanger! That’s driving me insane. The future of Loki will be revealed in season two, and I literally cannot wait!

I loved Loki, of course, but at some points it didn’t feel like I was watching post-Battle of New York Loki. Instead, I felt as though I was watching post-Ragnarok Loki. Otherwise, I loved his development throughout this show.

Mobius had to grow on me, but once he did I was hooked. I never expected Owen Wilson to play this role so well, but I was happily surprised. I want to see more of him, and with that final scene in the finale, I can only hope the Lokius ship will sail.

Oh, Sylvie. I love her so much. With the exception of that kinda weird self-cest kiss in the finale, every scene with her was great! Sophia di Martino is a great actress and I’m pleased with her performance as a Loki. The other Loki variants were all fantastic, and I especially liked Richard E. Grant’s Comic-Accurate Loki. I also wish we’d seen more of President Loki.

Judge Renslayer and the Timekeepers were interesting, and I would’ve been happy with her being the big villain, but I still enjoyed her story. I hope that in the next season she will change her ways and join the gang. The Timekeepers, though, were a well-played diversion to the final boss…

Kang the Conqueror. As expected that it was, I was still so excited to see the (hopefully) next major bad guy on screen. Johnathan Majors did a brilliant job playing him, and I’m stoked to see him in the second season.

As for the directing, Kate Heron was a good choice. I enjoyed her style of direction, especially in episodes one, two, and five. As for the writing… let’s just say I’m not Michael Waldron’s biggest fan. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the overall plot and I’m anticipating how they handle the next season in terms of directing and writing.

All in all, Loki was phenomenal. I can’t wait to see what happens with the God of Mischief in season two and in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. 5 out of 5 stars!
