REVIEW: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wasn’t Marvel’s strongest project, but it wasn’t their weakest project either.
I mean, come on. Who doesn’t love a little dancing Zemo?
The show started off strong, with episodes one and two keeping me hooked and at the edge of my seat. Then, with the best part of episode three being its ending, the show started its descent. Episodes four and five dragged, and it finally picked itself back up in episode six.
I really liked Bucky Barnes in this show, especially the scenes with his therapist. His effort to grow away from being the Winter Soldier really showed in the first two episodes. I felt proud that he was trying to help the families of the people that he hurt as the Winter Soldier. It was such good development for Bucky and I hope to see his character continue to grow.
I hated John Walker, obviously, and I’m glad he got what he deserved. Although Marvel seems to have other plans for him, which are totally not Thunderbolts.
Karli Morgenthau was such an interesting and complex character that I was disappointed when she died. I felt as though had she not died, she could’ve redeemed herself and turned the Flag Smashers into something better. Alas, that may never happen.
The reveal of Sharon Carter being the Power Broker didn’t really come as a surprise to me. It was kind of obvious with how she had so much control over Madripoor. Now that she’s back in the States, I have a feeling that Marvel also has some big plans for her as well.
And last but not least, Sam Wilson.
Sam Wilson truly was the star of this show, with his inner turmoil over the rightful owner of the shield, to becoming Captain America. Finally seeing his background, Sarah and his nephews, was really important to see who he was not as a hero, but as a person. I loved the significance of the Wilson family boat being fixed as Sam and Bucky fixed themselves. Sam’s story was truly beautiful and I cannot wait to see more of him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wasn’t my favorite Marvel project, it sure was an entertaining one. I can’t wait to see where we go next, from Thunderbolts to Captain America 4! 4 out of 5 stars!
