REVIEW: Avengers: Endgame
This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.
As a Natasha Romanoff fan, I hated this film. As a Marvel fan, I loved this film. I have very conflicting feelings about this.
There was so much that happened in this film that I don’t even know where to start. Oh wait, how about my favorite character dying? Yeah, I’m real petty about that. After killing off my second favorite character Loki in Avengers: Infinity War, I thought that it couldn’t get any worse. Of course, I was wrong. Marvel deciding to kill off Natasha before her solo film is set to be released? Nice move, Feige.
I’m gonna move on before I completely start ranting.
Avengers: Endgame in all was a good finale to the Infinity Saga. It closed out a lot of storylines while also opening so many more. Despite this, I still don’t think this film was perfect.
Let’s start with the mistreatment of Thor’s depression. Turning Thor into a drunk was nowhere on my prediction bingo card, but I had hoped that it would be a good part of his character development. And it did. What came from it is Thor still being worthy, no matter his body or his depression, which I liked. What I didn’t like was how the Avengers made fun of his depression and Rocket mistreating him during a panic attack. I fully blame the Russo brothers for this one, as they could’ve handled this better.
One more thing I didn’t like was Steve’s ending. It was so out of character for him to go back to Peggy and leave Bucky and Sam behind. It just didn’t sit right with me, and I really felt like Steve deserved a better ending.
On the flip side, there were a few things I liked. Tony and Pepper finally settling down and starting a family, for one. I loved Morgan, and I loved the “I love you 3000” scene. It was a time that I actually smiled during this film.
A few small things I really liked were the “Hail Hydra” scene, Cap fighting himself, and Cap wielding Mjolnir.
Of course, the portals scene was phenomenal, and it made my theater experience 3000% better. I loved that scene and watching all of my favorite characters come back. It was truly a moment that I will never forget.
In the end, Avengers: Endgame was a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it was nowhere near perfect. It should’ve been Clint. 3 out of 5 stars.
