November 2025 Album Review Wrap-Up

Image
Hi all and welcome back to another album review wrap-up! I had a very interesting month, with quite a few of the albums I found not even being on streaming platforms! Smile by Judy Anton Released: 1980 Judy Anton's Smile is a blend of Japanese city pop and English easy listening, a very calming album to put on. This album is not on streaming either; I happened to come across one of the tracks on YouTube that lead me down a deep rabbit hole of her other works. Favorites: The River Must Flow, A Little Bit More, Reflections of You Overall Rating: 4.5 Stars Sunshowers In My Eyes by Judy Anton Released: 1979 Compared to the album I listened to prior, Judy Anton takes on a more '60s English sunshine pop approach with Sunshowers In My Eyes. With a few tropical beats thrown in, this album is good, but is not my favorite of hers. This album is not present on streaming as well, and I found a vinyl rip on YouTube. Favorites: Turn Out the Light, Soft Summer Breeze, Sweet Love Overall Ratin...

October 2025 Album Review Wrap-Up

Hi all and welcome back to another album review wrap-up! It's finally the month of Taylor, but that doesn't mean I didn't listen to anything else... The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift I wrote a separate post all about The Life of a Showgirl! Read my review here ! Addison by Addison Rae Revisited Released: 2025 So a lot of people in my circles were comparing Life of a Showgirl to this album and I honestly don’t know why? They’re not similar to me at all but I decided to revisit anyway. I feel like this album is more in alignment with Charli XCX’s Brat and Lorde’s Virgin than anything by Taylor (maybe the song Honey? I really don’t know lol). Feels very 90s and Y2K pop while also modern and fresh. I will say my listening experience was slightly better now that I didn’t have Diet Pepsi and Headphones On constantly being shoved down my throat across social media, but this album does feel shallow in the end. Favorites: Times Like These, Aquamarine, High Fashion Overall Ratin...

REVIEW: Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl

Image
Good morning! It's Taylor Swift album release day, which means all is happy and right in the world! (I am in a deep denial and delulu state help!) The Life of a Showgirl was my most anticipated album of the year. I attended the midnight release party at Target with one of my best friends, Madelyn, and we later attended the Official Release Party of a Showgirl together. It was such an eventful and fun experience, but I'm not here to talk about that. The music and its quality are what I'm going to be putting under my meticulous Swiftie scrutinizing, and what follows is my track-by-track breakdown. Our lead single, The Fate of Ophelia is a great opener, and really refreshing to hear after her last album opener and lead single was Fortnight. It finally feels like we've gotten a great lead single after years of poor choices. I love the light and feathery vibe to this song, it's very catchy and has been stuck in my head since listening. "Kept it 100 on the land, the ...

September 2025 Album Review Wrap-Up

Image
Hi all and welcome back to another album review wrap-up! It's the penultimate month before a Taylor Swift album releases, which means all other artists have to get their music out now! Here's what I listened to: Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay Released: 2024 I keep hearing about this album and I wanted really bad to try and like it, but this is really not my thing. I can't make it past the fourth track. It's very overproduced, overstimulating, and the singers voice is REALLY irritating. Reminds me a lot of Charli XCX's Brat album, which I also hated. Not for me. Favorites: None Overall Rating: 1/5 Stars She Comes From Nowhere by Neggy Gemmy Released: 2025 I was really drawn in to Neggy Gemmy's work by the album art, the music video for Polly Pocket, as well as her overall retro aesthetic. Unfortunately I was led astray, as I thought this would be a retro 70s-inspired soft rock album, and ended up being more on the modern electronica side of things. I personally p...

August 2025 Album Review Wrap-Up

Image
Hi all and welcome back to another album review wrap-up! August has been a crazy month on the music side of things, especially for Swifties. But I'm not here to talk about that (yet), so let's get into my reviews! Panda by Ley Soul Released: 2025 I discovered Ley Soul the way I believe most have: through her 2023 song Intergalactic Janet that went semi-viral on TikTok. Now in 2025, she's finally released her debut extended play. Consisting of her four previously released singles, a song she previously only hosted on her YouTube channel, and one brand new song, this wasn't an entirely new listen for me. I love her neo-soul and alt-pop sound so much, and I am anticipating more new music from Ley! Favorites: Into Sands, Intergalactic Janet, Fortune Eyes Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind by Vashti Bunyan Released: 1964-1967 My rating is low, but it doesn't mean this singer is not good. This album is just a compilation of Vashti Bunyan's f...

Retrying Books That I Didn’t Give A Fair Chance To In My Youth (Because I Was Influenced By The Bandwagons Of Their Time, Or Simply Because I Was A Stupid Teen), Vol. 3: Red Queen

This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk. Hello and welcome to the third installment of my reread review series called “ Retrying Books That I Didn’t Give A Fair Chance To In My Youth (Because I Was Influenced By The Bandwagons Of Their Time, Or Simply Because I Was A Stupid Teen) .”  Today’s review is on Victoria Aveyard’s debut novel Red Queen, which I had previously read back in 2017 and had given it and it's sequel both 1 star. I decided to give the series a second chance because, well... I was bored? Let me start by saying that the Red Queen series- because yes, I did end up reading the entire box set- is not one of the worst I've read, not by far. There is much worse fodder out there to hate on than this. Yes, it's a little bit tropey: it has your typical dystopian setting, it has the upper class (Silverbloods) versus the lower class (Redbloods), and then we have our main character Mary Sue Mare Barrow. Mare has red blood. Mare can also create lightning; ...
