Is Doctor Who in a new Golden Age?
Doctor Who's The Giggle was an epic of a story. With plenty of twists and turns, easter eggs galore, and the feeling of a true tribute to sixty years of history, this story is truly the 60th Anniversary Special of the three.
David and Catherine were heartbreakingly perfect. Knowing that this is going to be their last on-screen appearance for at least a while, saying goodbye again was bittersweet but I liked this ending better than Series Four's ending. The Doctor's Tenth incarnation getting time to heal and be with the people he loves like his own family while the Fifteenth incarnation gets to continue adventuring on was such a beautiful way to wrap this up.
Neil Patrick Harris was the perfect choice to play the return of the Toymaker. Though I found his accent to be a little wonky, he gave such an amazing and villainous performance. And Mel! I was so excited to see her, even though her appearance had already been leaked. She's one of my favorite classic Doctor Who companions, along with Sarah Jane and Ace, so seeing her again was a fun and mind-blowing experience.
Now, for the man of the hour, Ncuti Gatwa. Though we've only had him as the Doctor for about five minutes of screentime, I can already say that I love him. I definitely see the charisma and charm that Russell T Davies liked so much, and I'm so excited to see him fully-fledged as the Doctor at Christmas!
For now, though, I give The Giggle 4.5 out of 5 stars. The countdown begins again...
