REVIEW: Ms. Marvel
This review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.
Kamala Khan’s story is more than becoming a superhero. It’s about family, friendship, beliefs, and finding your true self.
I loved Ms. Marvel. Being the first Marvel comic series I read, I really enjoyed this show (and all of the Easter eggs in it). It was a fun, diverse, family friendly show that doesn’t feel like over-acted crap from the Disney channel, and it presents itself just as that. The plot was very fun and easy to follow, and felt very reminiscent of Spider-Man: Homecoming. I very much enjoyed the high school setting, the background teenage drama, and especially AvengerCon.
Kamala Khan is a very relatable character. She is a Marvel fan, I’d even go as far to say that she is a Captain Marvel stan, and that’s what makes her easy to relate to. She is a fan of the same characters most non-casual viewers are fans of. She participates in fanfiction and fan art, and interacts with the in-universe fandom. It makes the show so much more relatable, and thus so much more special.
Right off the bat, Iman Vellani was phenomenal. A new-coming Pakistani-Canadian actress, she really displayed her talent in her first major role and I am very excited to see her in her next Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance. Her performance was definitely well-backed by her supporting cast.
Speaking of the supporting cast, it really feels like they (along with Iman) brings the show together. Especially the relationships between Kamala and her family, and Kamala and her closest friends made this show so sweet, and the cameo from Carol Danvers in the last post-credit scene makes me excited to see Carol and Kamala interact.
Overall, this is a great quality show for new and old Marvel fans alike, and I recommend every fan to give it a shot. 5 out of 5 stars.
