REVIEW: Melanie Martinez’s K-12

Holy fuck I feel like I just got transported into a crazy wonderland-ish universe!

This was one of the most creative and unique projects I’ve watched in a long time. I love how the ending was open, as Melanie said that there are two more movies planned as sequels! Very excited to see where Cry Baby goes after leaving the K-12, whether she decides to follow her friends and Lilith through the portal or stay in the real world.

Melanie, as an actress and singer, is outstanding. I loved the music, the order they were presented in really fit for the story that the movie was trying to tell. And yes, this movie has it’s flaws and I think that’s what makes this perfect. This movie is all about getting over and embracing your flaws.

In terms of the album, I still prefer Cry Baby, but K-12 is a very good album all in all. Drama Club is my favorite song, and I really loved the scene in the film for this track. Lunchbox Friends was a bit of an awkward song, and Teacher’s Pet was kinda weird?

In the end, I’m just really proud and happy for Melanie. I’ve loved and looked up to her since 2014 and seeing her expand her horizons in this way was truly exciting and inspirational.
